Why I was denied acceptance to Clarkson University?

I applied to Clarkson University and was denied acceptance at this point in time. In the letter I received they suggest I go to a two year college and then re-apply as a transfer student. Could the reason I was denied acceptance be beacuse I don't have enough credits? I'm just trying to avoid sounding desperate and generally speaking being a pain in the @ss, by calling the University and asking why I was denied acceptance.
