NDISwrapper not seen?

Okay so I am relatively new to Ubuntu Linux, as I'm sure will be apparent. So I rebuilt my computer using Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) and used a usb jump drive to get NDISgtk over to the computer, as I am trying to set up a wireless adapter. cool. I know how to use it, but when i go to the Package Manager, it is not there. I tried adding it as a downloaded file (under files tab), but the package is grey-ed out. I am very frustrated. Any help is much appreciated.
